Happy Cinco de Mayo!

Hola amigas! Cinco de Mayo is here and we are ready to celebrate! Cinco de Mayo, or the fifth of May is a regional holiday in Mexico that has become a holiday celebrated in many places beyond just Mexico. It originates where descendants have moved and come together as a group, or people have gathered to celebrate and indulge in Mexican food and beverages. And, yes, we simply can’t resist joining in the fun!

And did you know, special observances are held around the world in many different ways for Cinco de Mayo? Most celebrations include Mexican food and drinks, but there are some that are quite different in how they choose to commemorate the day.

For example, there is a sky diving event near Vancouver, Canada. In the Cayman Islands there will be an air guitar competition. In Phoenix, Arizona, there are plans for face painting, pony rides, bouncy houses and many arts and crafts. In other cities there will be members of a Mexican ballet, a Mariachi band as well as Mexican artisans flown in to show off their beautiful work. And, we too love celebrating Cinco de May in Minnesota!  Check out our local events here.

So, thinking of hosting your own Cinco de Mayo fiesta? Check out our “Fiesta” Pinterest board as we have collected all of our fiesta favorites!  There is no right or wrong way to host your celebration, so have fun with your decor. We like to find one image that inspires us and then we use those colors to set the party tone. And, have fun with it!

We love having plenty of fresh salsas, guacamole and margaritas. Quesadillas are great for people moving around as they eat and you can fill them with a variety of ingredients. Have bowls of chips alongside different dips for quick munching.

Bake up some enchiladas and burritos for fun, or even an easy taco bar! Again, your fillings can be as authentic or outrageous as your personality and those of your guests. We encourage having a mix of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drink options. We just love the jarritos soda, so colorful and fun for all ages.

And of course, what’s a good Cinco celebration without margaritas? We love the idea of having pitchers of yummy margaritas, so that guests can help themselves and you can enjoy your fiesta! When your guests see you having fun, they will too! We have collected some of our favorite drink recipes on our Cocktail pinterest board, so pop on over!

Last but not least, what are you going to wear? We love keeping it simple and adding a pop of color statement piece. Whether its a fun floral headpiece, great piece of jewelry, or a fabulous heel choose something you are comfortable in.

And don’t forget the music and to HAVE FUN!  It’s all about the ambiance when entertaining and having some sort of music is a must-have in our eyes. It doesn’t have to be loud and crazy (thats for late night ;), but adds that extra touch of revelry to your party. We love creating fun playlists and this is perfect opportunity to bring your fiesta to a whole new level.

Happy Cinco!

Cheerfully yours,

Nicole + Jenn

Pickle-Infused-Vodka-foodiecrush.com-085

Heidi over at Foodie Crush concocted the perfect pickle-infused vodka. Why so perfect, you ask? Because not only does it look pretty in a lovely container, but it can be used in this amazing Bloody Mary recipe the morning after.

Pickle-Infused-Vodka

Pickle Infused Vodka:

  • 3 parts vodka [1.5 cups]
  • 1 parts pickle juice [1/2 cup] – use any kind of pickles you like!
  • A few pickle spears and vegetables [carrots and red peppers]

In a stylish container, [We like these from Weck or these from Ikea!] Combine the pickle juice with the vodka and gently mix them together. Add a pickle spear or two and a few vegetable pieces.  Place the bottle[s] in a cool, dark place for 3 days. Chill in the fridge a few hours before your event.

Before heading out the door, wrap a piece of twine casually around the neck of the bottle a few times and add a pretty gift tag! As you hand over your gift, remind her to use it in her Bloody Mary in the morning!

Don’t forget to tune in tomorrow morning at 8:45 on KARE11 to see other great ideas for gifting holiday hostesses!

BECAUSE WE’RE GRATEFUL

The days leading up to Thanksgiving always feel like the calm before the storm don’t they? With the holidays right around the corner, these few days are somehow perfectly positioned to get us thinking about the things we’re grateful for, the people we adore and the experiences that fulfill us.

The merry-making will soon commence and we will have the opportunity to spend this lovely time of year celebrating the season with a few of you and your nearest and dearest. It always reminds us of how many special celebrations we have shared with many of you this year.

We are so very grateful for you. Our clients who have turned into friends and friends into family. Our families who lend us a hand as we work into the wee hours. Our readers and followers who meet us online to share in our excitement over beautiful parties. The colleagues who work tirelessly to bring our designs together. You are all so important to us and we’re so thankful to interact with so many kind and talented people on a daily basis.

We wish we could celebrate with all of you, but we can’t, so we want to say Cheers To You! We hope this Thanksgiving is relaxing, fun, and filled with celebration of all the things you are Thankful for. Mix up one of these yummy cocktails and Cheers to those you love too!

Love Wins.

It’s been a big week for love! With the Supreme Court decision last week, declaring that marriage is a fundamental right for all couples, this country took a bit step toward love, acceptance, and equality. And we couldn’t be happier! We love what Justice Anthony Kennedy said on the subject: “No union is more profound than marriage, for it embodies the highest ideals of love, fidelity, devotion, sacrifice, and family. In forming a marital union, two people become something greater than once they were.” So beautiful, and so true! And that’s exactly why we love working with couples to help them prepare for their weddings.

And speaking of weddings, this Wedding Wednesday, we’re talking about cocktails! Many couples opt for full bars at their weddings, but that can get expensive. Just because you’re on a budget doesn’t mean you have to forego having a bar at your reception, though! We love the idea of just serving beer and wine, along with one signature cocktail. When you go this route, you only have to have ingredients for one mixed drink on hand, which significantly lowers costs. Plus, there’s something so festive about a signature drink, something that plays along with your theme, venue, or personal tastes! If you’re having a summer wedding, we personally love The Firecracker. This vodka-based cocktail has cucumber, lime, and watermelon, making it a quintessentially summery drink! It’s so refreshing, and has that dreamy peachy-pink hue—the perfect color for a celebration of love! And, stylistically, it suits everything from an outdoor reception, to a high-end ballroom affair! Find the recipe HERE, and talk to your bartender about creating these drinks on your big day!

And you don’t have to stick to a cocktail’s given name when it’s your signature drink! We love the idea of giving it a special title, like naming it after you, as a couple. Or, if you have a hashtag for your wedding, you could use incorporate that in the name! Here at White Peacock Weddings, we believe that you don’t need to spend a huge amount of money and go over-the-top with food, drinks, and decor to make your wedding day special. It’s all about the details and special touches. And if you need an extra hand with putting together those details, don’t hesitate to contact us. We’d love to help you make your special day everything you’ve hoped for!

So, will you create a signature cocktail for your wedding reception? What will you call it? We’d love to hear!

P.S. Don’t forget, you have until 6 p.m. tonight to sign up for our Mrs. Box giveaway! Get all the details HERE, then head to our Instagram to enter! A winner will be announced later tonight. Good luck!

Chicks that Mix: A Cinco de Mayo Fiesta

View More: http://katezimmermanpictures.pass.us/nacho-bar

It’s the first of May! Can you believe it? We’re hoping that Minnesota and Mother Nature are kind to us in the coming weeks and that Spring is here to stay. Because we’re ready for backyard barbeque season, to spend weekends on the porch with friends, soaking up the sun! Cinco de Mayo is happening on Tuesday, and we think that’s the perfect way to kick off the season! It’s a fun, festive occasion, and it’s the type of party that requires very little planning but is oh-so-fun! And you know what that means? Time to dust off that tequila bottle and mix up some margaritas!

And what goes better with Margaritas than some delicious Mexican food? For your Cinco de Mayo celebrations, we recommend serving Carnitas! It’s a crowd-pleaser for kids and adults alike, can be served up buffet-style, and is full of so many yummy {and actually kind of good for you!} food! Start with crispy tostadas, add a layer of refried beans, a mound of shredded pork, and top it with all of your favorites—pico de gayo lettuce, salsa, guacamole, queso fresco, a squeeze of lime, and whatever else you can dream up!

With this style of meal, each guest can add whatever toppings they’d like and skip whichever ones they don’t prefer, so everyone is happy! And don’t forget to have a bowl of chips for those who want to go back for extra guacamole. And when it comes to guacamole, we believe homemade is always best. So mash up some avocados, dice some red onions, squeeze in a generous amount of lime juice, a bunch of chopped cilantro, and salt it to taste! It’s simple to make, and a significant cut above store-bought options. Throw up a string of lights and lay down a festive tablecloth, and you’ll be good to go! Now, for the drinks . . .

We love a good ol’ fashioned classic margarita, on the rocks. But if you’re looking to serve something a little out of the ordinary, this Blood Orange Margarita looks divine, this Pineapple Margarita looks super refreshing, and a peach variety? Yes, please. But, for you purists out there, we’ve included a simple, classic variety, just for you. But be careful—these bad boys pack a punch. {Which is why we always include a splash of water . . . that way you can enjoy two or three without things getting crazy!} And if you’re making them for a crowd, consider making the blended variety {rather than on the rocks} for quick, easy mixing!

Margarita

The Classic Margarita

Ingredients:
3 Tablespoons Silver Tequila
1 1/2 Tablespoons Triple Sec
1 1/2 Tablespoons Fresh-Squeezed Lime Juice
Splash of Water
Ice
Lime Wedge or Cucumber Slice
Sea Salt

Directions:
To rim the glass, fill a saucer with salt, rub a lime wedge around the rim until moistened, then dip the rim into the salt. Add the tequila, Triple Sec, lime juice, water, and a handful of ice into a cocktail shaker, and shake until well-mixed. Strain into a double old-fashioned glass {or whatever style you prefer} filled with ice. Garnish with a lime or cucumber, and enjoy!

So, will you be hosting or attending a Cinco de Mayo fiesta celebration this year?
