Festive DIY’s to Ring in the New Year!

So the countdown to the New Year begins!

Soon we’ll be replacing the “sugar plums dancing in your head”, to visions of sparkly jello shots & shiny pinatas as we approach 2017! NYE is right around the corner and you know we love hosting a celebration to remember.

For the last minute planners (which we totally get), and for anyone that loves a little sparkle, we’ve put together a list of festive DIY’s to dance up any New Year’s Eve bash.

1. DIY Party Crowns

Nothing says “midnight kiss ready” like gold, sparkling and shimmering crowns for your guests! These DIY crowns are simple and fun, and we’ve included links for full instructions on how to achieve these looks.

How to:

Tinsel Crowns

• Star Crowns

These glitz crowns are 100% certified for NYE selfie cuteness! To save prep time, make a handful of these goodies and use them as props for a DIY photo booth.

2. DIY Sprinkle Bar + Ice Cream Sandwich Pops!

We love the idea of serving your guest’s yummy desserts that will hit their sweet tooth throughout the night. Luckily, this is a no-bake treat, so there’s minimum room for error.

How To:

• You’ll need to purchase basic ice cream sandwiches, lollipop sticks, and LOTS of sprinkles.

• Cut sandwiches into fourths for mini fun, or leave as is for full size.

• Pop in your sticks and roll or sprinkle your toppings on.

TIP: For more NYE party fun, create a sprinkle toppings bar…or should we say a sparkle bar! Full instructions can be found here.

3. DIY Floating Filler Centerpiece

We love when our party spaces are tied together through common centerpieces such as beautiful floral, fairy light vases, glimmering candles, etc. Needless to say, we were drawn to this color popping balloon centerpiece for a festive NYE gathering.

How To:

• You’ll need a balloon pump, latex balloons, and clear vases.

• With the vases next to you, eyeball how many balloons you’ll need to fill each vase. From there, blow up your balloons.

• Work with your color palette to place the balloons nicely and evenly into each vase, and arrange!

4. DIY Disco Ball Pinata

We’re all for adding a little bit of fun to any celebration whether that’s through games, whiskey tastings, dancing, or sparkly pinatas! While thinking about what would fit best for a NYE celebration, we came across this disco ball beauty, and said Yes, Yes, Yes!

How To:

• We’d be lying if he said we had any idea of how to make these beauties…follow the full instructions here!

TIP: For a fun burst of color, add vibrant handfuls of confetti alongside candy and any other sweet treats you want to hide inside.

5. Pop Rockin! Jelly Shots

We’ll say it now, and we’ll say it again, keep it simple yet make everything SPARKLE on NYE night. This goes beyond the decor and party props, but to your delicious eats and drinks as well. This next DIY is not only fun to make with a batch of your closest girlfriends, but they’re also cute & simple edible decor to fill your bar cart.

How To: Full directions here!

Okay babes, we’ve covered eats, drinks, decor, and a little bit of fun for your New Year’s Eve DIY’s to ring in your 2017. So put your DIY crown on and shine!

And, don’t forget to shimmy, sip’, and socialize the NYE night away!

See you in 2017.

Tomorrow is the day many of you will officially begin your Holiday celebrations. With friends and family coming into town, holiday parties and shopping for gifts – it can be easy to overlook plans for a Christmas table that “WOW’s”!

Because entertaining is the name of our game and we think everyone should be able to do so with ease – we’ve rounded up 5 holiday tables capes with items you can pick up today!

Let’s get started with a classic. It’s the one [or few times] a year to reach for  your treasured china, silverware, and crystal glasses.  Set an elegant place setting using a white napkin and Christmas cracker. Swing by your local garden center or Home Depot and pick up a loose garland to lay down the center of the table. Use as many candle sticks as you have to create a warm and cozy ambiance.

Because we can’t get enough of these adorable bottle brush trees this year- and who wouldn’t want to be a guest at a table that feels like something straight out of Whoville – go wild with color here! Head over to your local Anthropologie or Target to find these fun trees, grab some fake snow while you’re out and instead of Christmas crackers wrap a wacky gift in striped paper for everyone to open. You’re plates don’t have to match as long as they’re in your color scheme and fun glassware is absolutely welcome!

For those of you who are already on board the Scandinavian design train – kudos. It’s 2016 biggest design trend prediction and this tablescape will find you on point. The natural elements and design simplicity give the space to focus on your delicious food and warm company. Simplicity is the key here – pull out your white plates and clear glassware, try to stick with a color palate of whites, grays and neutrals. Find these terra-cotta potted pines in the dollar section of Target or on the shelves of Michaels.

Here in the North, it’s not uncommon to spend your holidays at the cabin. Take a cue from the north woods and add in pops of plaid, natural wovens, and mason jars! Either gather some wintery greens from the outdoors or pick some up nearby. Sprinkle in a few pinecones and red berries [find these at your local Michaels or hobby store, too!] and you’re almost ready for a nordic feast. Adding some unique character elements is never lost on us and we love the idea of these maple syrup’s as gifts! [Find mini-versions at World Market]

Finally, because sometimes it really is all about the food – prepare a tablescape feast. Start with a little greenery – [eucalyptus will work and its easy to find at Trader Joes!] and pile high yummy fruits like grapefruits, oranges, pomegranates, grapes, apples, and figs. Add in some pretty bowls [these wooden bowls would work too]. When dinner is over, mix in some cheese for dessert and your feast is sure to last well into the evening!

Need table linens, serveware or place settings? Check out World Market– they have e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g!

Makers Unite MSP

It’s Friday! Hurray! To celebrate, we’d like to give all of you a recap, complete with lots of pictures, of the fabulous wedding vendor event we co-hosted last month, Makers Unite.

Makers Unite was a concept co-created by White Peacock Weddings, a division of White Peacock Styled Events, and Spark Letterpress after months of brainstorming to provide a platform for gathering together like-minded makers. What resulted was an evening created to celebrate the wedding industry and provide a venue for wedding vendors—from planners, photographers, stationary designers, and stylists to caterers, beverage vendors, videographers, bakeries, entertainment, transportation, and more—to mix and mingle. You know, like a networking event, minus the awkward, and with a little extra sparkle and shine. We wanted to coordinate an event that would celebrate all of the lovely people we get to interact with as event planners, showcasing each others talents, learning about what others in the industry are doing.

The event took place in Spark Letterpress’ studio, and we had a blast re-imagining and decorating the space, helping vendors set up stunning stations throughout that reflected both their business and our design concept. We stuck to light colors, bright + airy decor for an aesthetic that gave off a decadent, lighthearted, celebratory air. {All the way down to our valet + white carpet and balloon drop at the end of the night!}

What resulted was a space for our guests to mix and mingle {while enjoying bites + sips from some lovely local caterers, bakers, breweries, and distilleries}, meet each other or reconnect, interact with our featured vendors {think: hand-lettering, illustration, floral design, and a braid bar}, and, of course, Instagram the gorgeous space that Spark Letterpress allowed us to use for this event! But don’t take our word for it . . . keep scrolling for photos of the evening, captured by the lovely Melissa of La De Da Photography, and CLICK HERE to watch a video compilation of the evening, courtesy of ALL WAYS Film & Photography! {And see a complete list of vendors from Makers Unite at the bottom of the post!}

Brian, founder of Wander North Distillery, one of our vendors that evening, perfectly epitomized what brings all of us, our guests and vendors, together: “I wanted to make something that I could hold in my hand.” Despite our different career paths, we’re all brought together by the desire to create, to make something special. And it was so sweet to not only see this event come together, but to interact with so many local people who are cut from the same fabric, who just need to make. Thank you all for joining us on this adventure!

Makers Unite Vendors:

Thank you so much, to our vendors and guests, who helped make this an evening to remember! And keep sharing your photos from the event using #MakersUniteMSP!

WP takes on DC

This fall, we got to pack up and head to DC for a very special event. One of our Minnesota-based clients was throwing an engagement party for her sister in DC and brought us on to design and execute a beautiful, intimate engagement dinner party for Chelsea and JR. Our client wanted this to be more than a dinner—she wanted it to be an immersive experience. So we focused on the decor of the room, the tablescape, the actual meal and how it was executed, all to create an amazing experience for the bride-and-groom-to-be. We love creating tailor-made events that captivate our client’s vision, and this party was no exception!

The dinner party was hosted at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Georgetown. Located in the heart of beautiful Georgetown, it’s located in an historic brick building—a converted industrial incinerator—with exposed beams, ironwork, and interior brick hallways that evoke a chic 1920s club-like industrial atmosphere. This is one of the Ritz-Carlton’s few boutique hotels, and the service and amenities are unparalleled, with the attention to detail giving everything an air of sophistication.

And that’s exactly what we wanted to provide for this engagement party: clean, modern design with a lush, sophisticated feel.

We played to the strengths of the space when planning the details of this event, both through the atmosphere of the room and in the spirit of high-end service we found around every corner. Using the exposed bricks and pipes as a textural backdrop, we utilized lighting and pops of color to make the space really shine. We used a chic black, white, and deep berry color palette with gold accents. Each table had lush color-blocked florals (stunning dahlias, ranunculus, and calla lillies) down the middle that created a colorful runner on top of the sequined gold linens and pops of black and white stripes in the runner (which complimented the invites). Clear ghost chairs kept the room light and airy and clear acrylic name plates designated where each guest was seated, with names hand-lettered in gold.

We’re of the belief that you can never have to many candles, and we carried out that belief at this party. The stairs up to the room where the party was held were lined in candles, and upon entering the room you were struck by the lush, romantic candlelit vibe. We hung up cafe lights against one of the brick walls to add some dimension to the room and to be used for a fun photobooth backdrop. Large gallery canvases of the couple were displayed throughout the space, making this evening all about the couple—just as it should be at an engagement party! We ensured that the overall feel of the space didn’t take center stage, but that it was about the dear friends and family gathering together, and that the details we put together only enhanced a feeling of celebration for the couple.

The main event was the sit-down, three-course dinner for 50 with synchronized serving, giving a feel of real opulence. We created a custom curated menu and served his-and-hers cocktails, providing monogrammed cocktail napkins and fun straws and stirrers to go with them. For dessert, guests were treated to an ice cream sandwich bar and warm, hand-pressed donuts.

The whole event was stunning, and we loved the way that the warmth of friends and family gathering together for a celebration so beautifully complemented the lush, candlelit space we created. Thanks for letting us be part of your celebration, Chelsea and JR!
